Good news globetrotters. Vietnam has announced that it would soon start direct flights from New Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City in the country. Now, we all know what a blessing direct flights are. But, that's not the only part which is grabbing eyeballs and making headlines. The low-cost Vietnamese airline VietJet Air is pretty controversial and is known as 'bikini airline.' Of course, there's a pretty valid reason why it is known by this name. As the name suggests, the air hostesses in this flight clad bikinis and serve the passengers!

The airline will fly four times every week and will begin operation sometime between July and August this year. VietJet Air was founded by woman billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao in 2011. Thanks to its unique gimmick it soon gained immense popularity and became Vietnam's second-largest airline.

According to a report published in BBC, in the past, the airline has made occasional headlines with having its stewardesses serving the aisles wearing little more than a bikini as uniform.

"The airline found themselves in hot water in 2012 when five female bikini-clad flight attendants took part in a mid-flight dance posing as beauty pageant contestants. The airline had not obtained permission from Vietnam's aviation authorities, and it was fined £678.20 (around Rs 62,000)," states a report by The Sun.

The airline also releases an annual calendar which features bikini-clad models and ground staff. Not only that, VietJet Air has often spearheaded interesting marketing campaigns with bikini-clad flight attendants, and pilots. However, the 'bikini' is not the sole factor responsible for the popularity of this airline. Extremely cheap tickets and services are a major reason too. FYI, it was named as one of the top 500 brands in Asia 2016 and "The Best Asian Low Cost Carrier" at the TTG Travel Awards 2015.

Well, only time will tell whether the airline will garner the same kind of popularity in India.
